Somali refugees flee town fearing fighting (AP)

MOGADISHU, Somalia ? Hundreds of people are fleeing a camp near Somalia's capital, fearing a clash between al-Qaida-linked militants and African Union peacekeepers.

Many of the Somalis staying at the displacement camp had escaped fighting in 2007 between the al-Shabab militants and forces trying to defeat them.

In the country's south, meanwhile, Kenyan soldiers on Sunday closed in on the militant-held town Afmadow.

The Kenyan military entered neighboring Somalia one week ago to fight al-Shabab, which has been blamed for suicide bombings, kidnapping foreigners and killing famine victims.

Somali gunmen have kidnapped four Europeans in the last six weeks, one of whom later died.
